| Summer 2009
We had three public concerts in August (in addition to a miniconcert and
a wedding). The first concert was at Sardis Chapel (near Kilgetty)
on August 6th, to celebrate the chapel's 200th
anniversary. The secod was in St Mary's Church Tenby on Tuesday 11th August, and the third concert is on
Thursday 25th August, in aid of the Tenby Branch of the RNLI.
This is now an annual event, and usually our biggest audience of the
year.
July's schedule was very busy indeed, with five concerts and a
mini-concert. The last was on July 28th in aid of St John's
chirch, Tenby. The previous concert was for Macmillan Cancer Support. HERE is the press report of the Ty Hafan concert on July 2nd, and the July 5th Pembroke Music Festival
concert. Soloists in July were Paul Varallo, Dr John
Harrison, David Blackmore, and, in the Giltar "mini" concert, Eric
Mullins and Huw Morris. Well done all of you!
With four concerts
and a miniconcert, June was a very busy month! Concerts of particular note were on 25th of June, in aid of the very worthy Harriet Davis Trust, (press report HERE) and the much anticipated Joint Concert with the Dowlais
choir June 13th. After this one, many choristers and supporters went home "tired but 'appy".
Choir Chairman Terry makes a presentation to Dowlais' Chairman Meurig.
The choir also gives private
concerts occasionally. Recently we performed on
Manorbier Castle for a private function of Chevron Executives, and
followed this by a mini-concert in the Castle Inn "next door".
Thanks for the hospitality and warm welcome!
Albert
Hall Massed Choirs Concert
Well, a week later, most of
us had finally recovered from a fantastic and memorable weekend - for
choristers, families and friends. There was the odd excess, but
the rule is: what happens on tour, stays on tour. However,
a Mrs S W wished us to publish the photo below. It shows how a
dedication to musical excellence can occasionally take its toll!

Easter Concert and activities, click HERE.
Nanette
Lewis Head
Rev Nanette Lewis-Head's
farewell service took place in St John's on
Sunday 11th January. Nanette has been a very popular
minister and a good friend to the choir. We wish her a long and
very happy retirement!
Choir Dinner
This was a very "merry"
occasion, with Roy Noble in fine form. Click HERE for the press report,
photos etc. Remember - ctrl W will close the page.
HO
HO HO!
Santa Wilbur (MD Ian
Williams) made a surprise early visit to the County Club at the end of
November. Brave souls have entered a competition to guess his
weight.
ITV Roadshow
We
sang for this (and got drenched) on Friday 15th August. It was
hilarious though - a good time was had by all! A video clip will
be
available soon.
Roger
Maggs
It is with great sadness
that we announce the death of Roger Maggs. At the all too young
age of 66 Roger passed away on July 2nd. He joined the choir in
its early days, and served on the committee for many
years. He was secretary for several years, displaying exceptional
organisational and negotiating skills on behalf of the choir .
Roger will be
missed enormously: his quiet humour, friendly smile and kindly
voice lifted the mood
wherever he was. Our sympathies and condolences go to his wife
Ann and to his family. Roger's funeral - a moving and uplifting
celebration of his
life - was in St
John's church Tenby on Friday 11th July .
Cardigan Eisteddfod July 5th 2008
The choir sang two pieces on Saturday Evening. The
first was "si heiluli mabi", an unaccompanied Welsh
lullaby. The second was
"Nirvana", by Stephen Adams. We didn't come close to
winning on this
occasion, but felt nonetheless that we acquitted ourselves
honourably - the unaccompanied piece was certainly in tune. A
good time was had by all, especially in the
Cardigan Rugby Club afterwards (see below and the Photo of the
month). Our thanks go to the club for
their warm welcome and the food provided.

accompanist Jill plot some mischief in Cardigan Rugby Club.
New
Song
In March,
long-standing member David Flanagan passed
away. He was much loved and a popular soloist in
mini-concerts. One of the songs he liked to sing was "Bring Him
Home" from Les Miserables.
MD Ian Williams has made a new arrangement of this piece for the choir
to sing in Dai's memory. We hope to introduce it into our
programme
later this year.
Afterglow
On May 10th we held a very
successful joint concert with the Romsey choir from Hampshire.
The party in the County Club afterwards was just as successful - see
the picture below.
